It’s coming up to the International Day for Combating Violence Against Women, on the 25th November.
I thought I’d take the run-up to ask you to join [TRIGGER WARNING] this group against the horrific Cabwise rape posters that are up all over London (even if you’re not from London, it’s important to get the message across that this is wrong).
I have hated them since the day I first saw them, and my boyfriend’s even written coursework condemning them. I’m certain you’ll hate them too!
Chitra Nagarajan of Feminism in London has contacted me, along with a number of others, about tackling the campaign. There’s an advert (to go viral) in the works and an open letter is being written, both of which I’ll post here when I receive them.
We’d be interested in any ideas you have in combating this advert campaign, even if you’re not from London, or even the UK.
One of the ideas is to have an advertising campaign targeting men, e.g.:
[Headline] MEN! Don’t drink and date rape:
[subhead] Many rapes happen when the rapist is under the influence of alcohol. Don’t let it happen to you.
[Headline] MEN! make a stand this Saturday night!
[subhead] And don’t turn her into a crime statistic.
Please don’t be afraid to contribute. We’re just brainstorming here, so all ideas are worthwhile. So, either write your comments in the ask box below, send them to me in an ‘ask’, or reblog with them.
