Okay well, he seems to jump from the idea that “men have problems too”, to ‘men are equally oppressed in society’. Which is just terrible reasoning. He has also decided (based on…?) that feminism only ever focuses on so-called ‘women’s issues’, even though that is patently not true. He also seems to think that we live in an era where all women have “basic human rights”. Also not true.
I once heard Michael S. Kimmel say that one of the problems facing feminism is that yes, as a group, women have no power and don’t feel powerful: Men, as a group, have power but don’t feel powerful. I think that pawptart’s post does a nice job of exemplifying this.
Look, the point of it being feminism is that women are still oppressed and many women don’t have “basic human rights”, and society is geared towards helping men, while hindering women. Feminism seeks an end to sexism and sexist oppression, and both of those things are much worse for women. Men suffer from patriarchy too, but they also benefit from it greatly. It’s not ‘equalism’, because that ignores the realities of gendered oppression: That women suffer disproportionately at the hands of men, and a male state.
If we were on a level playing field then there would be no need for “preferential treatment” as this guy calls it. But we’re not. So we need actions that bridge the gap between how women are treated in society, to how men are.
Furthermore, women make up more than half of the world’s population. Feminism tries to deal with all the problems those women face. Pawptart is clearly imagining some limited idea of women who have no other problems than that they are female. Pawptart, c’mon, is the only woman you can think of white, able-bodied, straight and cis-?
Pff. Pawptart thinks he’s so smart. But he’s in his own wee bubble, and needs to learn/experience more before he can join our gang. Let’s keep him out of ALL the gangs! That’ll show ‘im.
Feminism Picture Project
My friend is doing a project for school that she needs some help with. Here is her description:
Spread the news! The Feminism Picture Project is underway! I am now collecting photographs and images of feminists (and/or people who believe in equal rights for everyone) to use for my senior project. I will be recreating images such as the one seen in the picture to the left with individual photographs. I will need approximately 1,000 or more. If you want to participate, please post a photo of yourself to the wall, send it in a message to me (if you prefer to maintain some anonymity), or send it in an email to feminismpictureproject2012@gmail.com. Pass on the message and get your friends and their friends involved!
As stated, she needs a lot of pictures to get this project finished. If you could, please pass it on to all your friends and anyone you think might be interested. There is also created a Facebook page, which you can like if you want or ask her any questions you may have. oh, and if you have any good feminist blogs that I can share this with, please let me know!

In 2010 (in the UK) male drivers caused 124,958 car accidents involving casualties. That same year, female drivers only caused 75,587. Go look up the statistics! THEY’RE RIGHT THERE ON THE INTERNET.
There are more variants in physical capability within genders then between. This is well-documented and you can look it up. You’ve learnt how to google - try it! (Also, what do you mean ‘more’? I’m pretty cis-men can’t drop melons-sized humans out of their genitals, and if they can, they certainly can’t house them for nine months. And, yes, women CAN pee standing up. CASE CLOSED.)

Again. This one. Let’s take your stereotypical bloke: Is it rational to get into a rage or beat the shit out of someone because your football team lost? C’mon. You don’t need more examples. Your life is full of men being emotional, and thank fuck! Can you imagine if people were totally rational all the time? That would be horrible. That’s what separates us from the ROBOTS! I don’t think I actually need to bring up examples of rationally thinking women (there are so many - do you live in a boys’ boarding school?), but women all over the world make rational decisions every day based on the threat of assaults from strangers, or murder from a violent spouse. Women are disproportionately poverty stricken. Do you think they’d even be alive if they didn’t make rational decisions based on how they can use their little money to the best of their survival. I don’t know why I am even bothering to write this out, but I suppose it is mainly because you haven’t thought about this AT ALL.
Yeah, I would stop if I were you. Generally I think it is better to have some basis in reality when I write things about the world and people I live with every day (assuming you DON’T inhabit a boys’ boarding school).
McDonald’s: Change your sexist packaging
This petition has been created and submitted by Jadeforshort for the UK branch of Mcdonald’s to alter their sexist packaging.
Their current packaging is offensive as it shows women to be the only ‘calorie counters’. It gives the total calorie intake for women but there is no mention of men’s calorie intake. Their packaging also has the internationally-used woman symbol on it, with no sign of the male counterpart. Calorie intakes are important for everyone; not just women. This packaging depicts women as ‘weight watchers’ and besides the clear sexism it doesn’t accurately show the percentage of total intake of fat, carbs, protein, etc., for an average male.
