On 6th December, The Big Give will match any donation towards helping Women for Women International rebuild women’s lives.

GRACE’S STORY

Grace was brutally raped in her own home while nine months pregnant. As a result her husband started abusing her and eventually left her with four children and no resources. She did not have any skills and could not think of how she would feed her children or send them to school.

Grace was able to join the Women for Women International one year programme of rights awareness and vocational skills training thanks to the support of people like you. She is now putting all her spare money into her small baking cooperative and shows a fierce determination to building her assets. She is working hard at becoming a stronger woman, but repairing the damage of war and rebuilding the lives of women is a long and arduous process.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo Grace is not alone in her experience.
In the first 9 months of 2009 there were 7,500 reported cases of rape in the Eastern region and since 1998 more than 5.4 million people have died. Like Grace, women hope for the support of people like you.
This season you have the wonderful opportunity to change the lives of women unrecognisably by doubling your donation through the Big Give

Thank you!

Women’s empowerment set to top agenda at UN Economic and Social Council meeting

Gender equality and the empowerment of women will be the main focus of attention when government ministers from across the world gather in New York for the annual high-level meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) next week…

I think this is fairly important positive news, but apparently neither the BBC or Channel 4 think so as I haven’t seen anything from them about it. Hmm!
